The speed converts from 50 to 40 mph and the highway patrol wait just beyond the speed change. The highway seems as though it should be 60 mph. They are there at least 20 times a week.

West of Maple Plain on Highway 12

Maple Plain, MinnesotaJan 08, 20100 Comments

As you exit Maple Plain heading West bound on Highway 12. The next 4-5 miles are a series of extremely short passing lanes on two lane blacktop. West Hennipen Public Safety officers sit on the shoulders and ditches of the East and West bound lanes. Sometimes you can find as many as 5 squad cars, sometimes you will see a guy sitting in a lawn chair with a radar gun in the back of a pickup in the ditch of the oncoming lane. The guy in the chair shoots and radios to squad cars.

The West Hennepin Police patrol the area. They have had a long standing reputation for patroling on HWY 12 thru town and stopping you for anything they can. Speeding and DWI enforcement (which are always posted in the local paper too). They will regularly team up with other PD’s and do speed traps on the hwy and county roads – usually a cop sitting in a lawn chair in the weeds with a laser gun. They will also stop you for 6 or so over just to write you a seatbelt tag if they can. These boys aint sittin the donut shop, they are out there workin it, so watch out!

West Hennepin Sheriffs patrol this stretch of Hwy. 12. The speed limits go from 55, to 45, to 35, to 40, to 50, and back 55 well west of Maple Plain. The 40MPH speed zone west of town was moved back, farther west from where is once was, a total speed trap.
