Orono, Minnesota Speed Traps
Brown Road near State Highway 12
This trap is located on the stretch between US HWY 12 and County Road 6. They will sit in the middle of this stretch on the West side of the road off onto the sidewalk. They will typically do this at night since it is impossible to spot them until the last second, but has been known to happen any time of the day. It is the Orono Police, and they use regular radar. Remember, it is a highly road and it’s easy to go over the 30 MPH speed limit.
County Trunk 15 near County Trunk 19
The 30 mph section on 19 ( between the county routes 15 & 19 to the area of Lord Fletcher’s Restaurant) has patrol cars hidden and monitoring both directions of traffic. Anytime and any day from 5:30 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
State Highway 12 near North Willow Drive
Orono Police sit along Highway 12 at the intersection with Willow Dr N (Across the street from SA and McDonalds). They will sit back about 50 feet from the highway just out of sight to unknowing drivers traveling either direction. The Otten Brothers across 12 has a K-Band sensor so the police use their K-Band to try and fool uneducated radar detector users. My advice would be to not speed from the Orono High School until you get the beginning of 394.
