Mathiston, Mississippi Speed Traps

I was driving through Mathiston one night heading west and saw three police cars at one of the turn arounds in between the Trace and the stop sign. I believe they started following after they were out of sight. Later two cars were tailing me for a while then blue lights flashed on one car. The other got in front and slowed down. They said they clocked me at 5 over in the 65. They might have profiled me since I am a male with long hair. They asked me if I had anything illegal: drugs, guns. They patted me down and searched my car. I don’t believe they even ran my ID as they only held it while searching my car. I think they thought I was suspicious driving through town, so found a reason to pull me over.

Speed limit rapidly drops from 65 mph to 35 mph while driving through Mathison. Highway patrol are always sitting waiting in the median.

When you are driving either east into Mathiston, or west leaving, the speed limit goes from 65 to 45 way before you reach town, and stay at 45 until after you cross the bridge outside of town. They love to get the traffic headed to and from MSU. You better be careful and follow the limit.
