Mendenhall, Mississippi Speed Traps
If you exit Highway 49 onto Highway 13 and head south on the one-mile stretch of road between there and the Hwy 149 exit, and you have car tags that do not say “Simpson County on them, then you WILL be pulled over and wind up paying “visitors tax” in the form of a ticket. I have only been pulled over twice in the last 25 years. Both times were on this stretch of road, both times in the last 12 months. Once for failing to come to a complete stop (nonsense) and once for failing to immediately produce proof of insurance (I had it, just couldn’t dig it up fast enough for the terse officer). If you’re not local, AVOID THIS EXIT.
When you cross the Hwy 13 bridge that goes over main street there is a cruiser sitting just past the bridge. This area appears to be 55mph but the officers state it is a 45mph zone. Could not find signs……
When you top the hill @ 13 and 49s the speed drops from 65 to 45 in 25 Fort
After passing MDOT heading South on 49, you are downhill and without warning speed limit drops from 65 to 55 "when children are present". There is no time to slow to 55 once you see the sign. Same way headed North.
