Meridian, Mississippi Speed Traps

The exit from I-20/59 eastbound to State 19 South requires you to exit onto the frontage road for about 1/2 mile. The interstate speed limit is 60. The frontage road speed limit is 45. Expect the radar units to be set up about 100 yards past the end of the exit ramp.

This is an absolutely rediculous trap! It is just a big money making scheme. Heading into this town, the speed reduces from 70 to 60. This surprises drivers, as the speed has been 70 for the last 150 miles on i-20/59. What’s even more surprising is that about 200 ft from the ‘speed limit 60’ sign, is a cop in a Ford Explorer with radar. You have to jam on the brakes when you see him! Plus, there are about 2 or 3 Crown Vics hovering around to catch the drivers who the cop in the Explorer choses. Be careful in the town, it’s a a shocker!

Meridian now has 4 motorcycle patrol units and they hide along North Hills Street, West of the bowling alley. They seem to be using POP radar and are very hard to locate until you are on them.

City police set up at the bottom of the hill entering Meridian headed West. There is a speed reduction entering the city and they park off the road on the North side. They also occasionly park an unmanned police cruiser in the open in the same spot. Seems that they’re serious about getting people to slow to 60 passing through Meridian
