Main Street near Leaf River Bridge from East Hardy Street

Petal, MississippiApr 09, 20081 Comments

Speed limit for Main Street is 30 mph after you cross over the bridge and that is less than Hattiesburg’s speed limit on East Hardy. You have to ride your brake to get down to the 30 mph mark. They sit in the Moose Lodge parking lot, either in a police car or on a motorcycle, and also hide in the dead end street in front of A & B Cycles. This is also where they often set up road blocks after 9 pm until early in the morning. I’ve also seen them sitting in driveways all along Main Street, running radar. There’s usually two visible cars around lunch time running radar.

Lynn Ray Road near Leeville Road

Petal, MississippiMar 06, 20080 Comments

They will sit at the bridge near the intersection of Lynn Ray Road and Leeville Road. Lynn Ray Road is a long road that starts out in the county where the speed limit is 45 but when you enter the city limit in drops to 35. That is nearly 1 mile before you get to the speed trap. To make matters worse, the terrain is down hill for about 3/4 of a mile before you get there. Watch out or you’ll be going in excess of 50mph and they will get ya.

Evelyn Gandy Parkway near Interstate 59

Petal, MississippiMay 04, 20071 Comments

This is the new exit from I-59 directly to Petal. Petal has too many police officers to know what to do with, so they send them to patrol this new parkway 24 hours a day for speeders. It is poorly signposted for speed, and the speed limits change as one approaches Petal. Be careful!

Chappel Hill Road

I have been stopped for speeding twice, and ironically (ha ha) both times were on this road. Whether you are going up or down the large hill, beware there may be a cop sitting off in the grass by the bridge. The second time I was pulled over was actually by a cop that was coming towards me, that was the one that got me my ticket!
