I55, Exit 91, 93, Cape Girardeau Airport

Be careful, especially at the end of the month, when going on Interstate 55 either North or South of town. The Highway Patrol occassionally patrols this construction zone where MODot is replacing a bridge, however, enforcement is generally done with the Cape Girardeau City Police. It seems that near the end of the month they step up their enforcement. MODot finally moved the 50 MPH speed limit sign past the Dutchtown exit on the Southbound lanes, but the 70 MPH sign is well past the end of construction and if the city is in need of money (which they are) they will attempt to catch you past the cones where it is logical to get back to speed. Going North it is much the same situation in both direction. Be careful. This area is not a metro-area, but the City is trying to get that status, it has been argued the only reason they wish to be considered Metro is to reduce the speed limit on the Interstate.

Hopper & Mt. Auburn Rd.

Beware when traveling north on Mt. Auburn road. Before you approach the 4-way at Hopper there is a parking lot for a church at the bottom of the hill. I’m not sure how the city gets away with it, but during any time of the day you can bet there is a good possibility of an officer being there. They like this spot because the hill just before this lot is fairly substantial and an unsuspecting motorists can easily go above the posted low speed limit of 35 if they do not ride the brake. You will not see the officer until you reach the bottom of the hill because of the trees. Beware! Cape Girardeau is running out of money in their city budget so they have begun to subsidize city services by exploiting this area.

Anywhere in the city – especially Hwy 74

Cape Girardeau, MissouriMar 01, 20020 Comments

The Cape City Police find any place they can to pull over and exploit the motorists of this town. Beware when traveling through. The city cops have no remorse and find great joy in throwing their fat belly’s around and writing tickets.
