Curryville, Missouri Speed Traps

Sa you enter town the speed limits change in a very short distance and you must be at that speed or else.If stopped the officer will take your license and take you around to a back street where they have a trailer with a JP and it is cash or instance credit card, no checks

This one is a classic. They run radar constantly and will give you a ticket for going 1 MPH over. The town is about 1 mile long and has about 7 – 8 speed limit signs in it. They will even give you a ticket for going over 1 MPH between the 35 MPH sign and the 45 MPH sign, right as you approach the 45 MPH sign and begin to accelerate. The furniture store in the next town even has a warning posted on their brochure about the speed trap.

This is a town of approx 200 people, with the state highway going down the middle. You can see open fields on both side of the town, that’s how small it is. Speed drops from 55 to 45 to 30 I think. Two new cop cars, generally one is manned.

Typical changing speed signs spaced spaced far enough apart that if your not alert the next one may be ignored because it is assumed to be the same as the last. They vary downward as you enter farther into downtown where police cars are behind buildings out of sight.

I observed the nabbing of the car in front of me and was lucky to get through without being stopped. On inquiry at a local restauranut in Vandalia I was told that Curryville was definitely a speed trap. The reason I am posting this warning is because, although Curryville is an out of the way small town, many people from the St. Louis area travel U.S. 61 to Hwy 54 to get to Vandalia to review and purchase low overhead furniture. Traffic tickets are,therefore, a main source of revenue for the coffers of entreprenurial Curryville.

Curryville population: 260. Speed signs half mile on either side of any town buildings going from 60 to 55 from either direction. There are at least 8 different changes in speeds on signs during the less than quarter mile of buildings in town. Trap is: going anything over the posted miles on any of the signs including the 55 mile signs a quarter of a mile past the last building of town. Ticket is minimum of $80
