Along the 8 mile (4 miles each side of Lone Jack exit) the local police always have radar. Speed is 65 on the divided highway, but many fly low well above this. Many students go from Kansas City to a college east of here. Sometimes two cars a few miles apart. Other small cities along highway 50 make their living with very strict speed enforcement.

Lone Jack is one of the more infamous Speed Traps in the country. They have 3 cops, but only two cars. Police Chief just made national news for making people work community service to avoid fines and/or jail. (Official charge was "Impersonating a Judge") Seriously. Missouri recently enacted a stiff penalty on speeding in construction zones, and since that law went into effect, Lone Jack has had constant "road construction." Not a day goes by from Spring through Fall that they aren’t "working" on the road. This means that even a ticket for 2 mph over limit will cost you $250! As you enter town from the west, the first road to the right is a dead end, and they will sit in there and nail you. Then two miles further, there is an overpass that they sit on and get you again. One trick that they have started to use is to sit behind all this "constuction" equipment and tag you from the lane they are supposedly working on! Take good advise and just don’t speed through here.
