Louisiana, Missouri Speed Traps
The speed does drop to 55 from 60. The Louisiana Police have a hiding spot and they sit there daily, issuing tickets. It is very easy with the hills to go over 55.
City police sit back off highway near reduce speed signs, there are several that reduce 10 mph each in short distance. They have pulled people over as they are reducing speed at the sign. Have stopped people and ticketed them for 1-3 miles over limit. Also speed signs are confusing for people from out of town—city limits crosses the highway at several different spots so it goes from 60 mph to 50 then back to 60 then 55,50,40,30 all within a couple miles. They especially like to sit at night just off the road with all the lights off. Fines are steep.
East end of town in both directions is particularly enforced. Residents are merely warned but there is not much leeway for non-residents. Louisiana is about 70 miles North of St. Louis and about 30 miles South of Hannibal.
