Elliston, Montana Speed Traps

The trap is on Highway US 12 on either side of Elliston. The speed limit drops from 70 MPH to 35MPH within 100 feet. The town is quite small,(3-4 buildings at the side of the road) so that by the time one is slowed to 35MPH you’re through “town” and headed out toward Helena or Avon. The town is situated at the bottom of McDonald Pass, so westbound traffic coming off the mountain is especially vulnerable. The Montana Highway Patrol usually has a patrol car parked in the bar/gas station parking lot.
