Before and After St Mary’s Fall

Saint Mary, MontanaJul 08, 20160 Comments

The speed limit on the Going to the Sun Road is 25 mph at St Mary’s Falls pullout which is reasonable as cars pull out and hikers get off for the falls. The spped limit right after is 35 mph and for a short distance increases to 45 mph which also is not unreasonable as these sections are straight with no pull outs and good sections of road. At least for this 4th of July week the National Park police have benn pulling people over and saying that they were radared in the falls when in fact they were only spotted well before or after by police going the other direction who could not produce the radar data or camera data, which they have. The purpose of this is to turn at most a 5mph over zone into a hundred dollar ticket. It is a trap probably to make money. Its a shame we cant fund the police better but they shouldn’t resort to this. Moreover their quickly Uturning on the road actually puts motorist in each way of traffic at risk.
