U.S. Highway 50

As you head north into Carson City, the speed drops down in increments, from 45,35,25, in a matter of a several blocks. They will ticket you if you enter the zones too fast. You need to brake to get slow enough to make the new speed,as it is slightly down hill grade. Letting off the accelerator will not slow you down enough.

The freeway has concrete barriers that hide a cop car as traffic heads southbound right after traveling under 5th St. Especially present around the 5p.m. rush traffic.

Coming thru the Carson valley the speed is 65 MPH. The speed then drops to 55 at Silver City RV Park at the base of the hill. The NHP air Patrol regularly does traffic enforcement, sometimes 4 and 5 hours, usually in the mornings. Have seen up to 5 cars stopped getting tickets — they hide at the Carson River bridge off by the trees. Most people travel 70-75 mph and don’t see the speed limit sign. Big trucks keep their speed up to make the grade to Jacks Valley Road.

Carson Citys finest must make 50% of their annual budget up along this stretch, constantly monitored. Its 25 mph. they will park any where from the fire station parking lot, at either ends of the tree lined traffic islands all the way around to Sherman facing north. I did find out from a resident at the trailer park across from the fire station that anytime one of the seniors pulls in or out of the park, if they feel intimidated by a "sudden" tailgater or "honker" they call the sherrif to file a complaint. That triggers a traffic patrol upgrade for that area. That was also backed up by one of the deputies I personally know.

Going east when the speed suddenly changes from 35 mph to 25 mph, just past left turn to WNC (Ormsby Lane) cops wait to catch anyone who doesn’t immediately slow to 25 mph.
