Peverly Hill Road near State Route 33

Portsmouth, New HampshireFeb 25, 20080 Comments

This is a fairly short road in Portsmouth, but is used a lot as a short cut. The speed limit is 25 mph, and often not observed. The police like to sit in the small schuch parking lot and catch the speed violators.

State Route RT1 Bypass near Greenleaf Avenue

Portsmouth, New HampshireNov 01, 20070 Comments

Motorcycle cops frequently sit infront of the Toyota dealership, RT1 Bypass south. The road goes from 4 lane divided with 45 MPH speed limit to 35 MPH at a traffic light. The 45 MPH section has no side streets and feels like a highway, so people often reach highway speeds without thinking. There is a slight downhill section before a left bend in the road, so people build up speed coming down the slight hill, then reach the bend and bam! ticket

Islington Road near Cabot Street

Portsmouth, New HampshireSep 05, 20070 Comments

Portsmouth police sit tucked back in the old gas station at the corner of Cabot & Islington. Islington is Notorious for back traffic accidents so the patrols are stepped up.

State Highway 16 near Interstate 95

Portsmouth, New HampshireSep 04, 20060 Comments

Trooper sits at split of 16 south and the road that connects to 95 South. I have often observed motorbike patrols as they are not easy to see from a distance and he has a long line of sight.

US Highway Interstate Rte 95 near Maine/NH state line

Portsmouth, New HampshireMar 06, 20060 Comments

Speed limit on Maine Interstate Rte 95 is a constant 65 mph.except when passing through larger cities. This change is marked clearly and with red flagged limit signs. Enforcement otherwise in Maine starts at around 72 mph. Immediately when crossing the state border into New Hampshire the limit drops to 55, posted with one small sign on the right of the bridge marking the border. This is a four lane road at this section and actually widens to six lanes a few miles further south. I counted fourteen [14] NH State cruisers, last Veteran’s Day, lying in wait within the first half mile over the border. Usually fewer, but always four or five. So go from a comfortable 70mph to a strictly enforced 55 mph with no warning and get tagged.
