Washington Street wherever there’s cool places to hang out

Hoboken, New JerseyApr 05, 20110 Comments

This is a very trendy street in Hoboken, with about a dozen restaurants/bars/coffee shops. It was ranked one of the top 10 great streets for 2010 by the American Planning Association. Unfortunately, in addition to teens and young adults and families hanging out here after school, so does a bevy of traffic enforcement officers. The police scour this street virtually any sunny afternoon for drivers with cell phone, red light, crosswalk and left turn violations. There’s also very aggressive nighttime enforcement and many intermittent daytime speed traps. Furthermore, there’s no speed limit sign anywhere on this street, so it’s assumed to be 25 under state law. Don’t you know how much police in trendy towns like these enjoy simply refusing to put in a speed limit sign when they want it to be 25 so they can make more drivers stuck with the "I forgot that if there’s no speed limit sign on a neighborhood street, it’s 25 in New Jersey." excuse!? If you feel you’re too vulnerable to get a ticket if you drive where the cool places in Hoboken are like I am, try a not-so-traveled street as far away from the Hudson River as possible, such as Palisade Avenue. I hope my advice helped you!

Willow Avenue near 15 Street

Heading south going over the Willow Avenue bridge the police use the radar as soon as you are coming down the hill. It is just to late as your sight is limited, but the police sight is just fine

Sinatra Drive near Between the Skate Park and the Stevens Institute River Parking Lot.

Hoboken, New JerseyJul 01, 20070 Comments

The Hoboken police park their cars in a dug out area around the one curve. You can see the spot easily heading north bound on Sinatra but if you’re heading southbound it’s impossible to see them. This is the only road in Hoboken that you can speed on, all other roads have speed bumps/traffic lights.

Observer Highway

Observer Highway leading into Hoboken is a highway-like street with an unrealistic speed limit. Be very careful in light traffic when officers choose to enforce teh limit.
