13 hours before this post North Plainfield had a marked Crown Victoria sitting in this approximate location on the west bound side of the road facing south. Remember that this entire roadway is 25mph and is easy to be caught speeding there.

Drivers seeking to bypass Rt. 22 traffic — and hurrying to drop their kids and minivan passengers to Somerset and West End Schools and Holy Cross Church– had routinely been speeding more than 20 miles per hour over the 25 mph limit, and also, routinely passing law-abiding drivers on this two-lane road.

New residents have been consistently calling police, I am told, with the result that more police cars are seen along Rockview and parked in these cul-de-sacs.

On June 14th, 2010 at about 8:43 A.M. North Plainfield ran a speed trap at the intersection of Manning Ave. and Westervelt Ave. for about 15 minutes. They typically run these “radar details” for about 15 minutes in different places at just about any time during the day or night. The exact coordinates of the location of the police vehicle (in this case a P71 Crown Victoria) were 40.624806, -74.424412 which is directly next to a sign that says “no parking here to corner”. Car was facing northbound on correct side of Westervelt Ave. just behind a big tree and next the mentioned sign. Cop could get clear readings from 3 out of 4 directions with the exception being behind where the officer was sitting. I would be most worried of getting caught in this if I was travelling westbound on Manning Ave. approaching and not being able to see the patrol car without distant early warning comming up on my port “left side facing forward” side-even considering that Manning has all the stop signs going north & south and Westervelt pretty much doesn’t for most of it’s spanning stretch going north & south.

On May 20th, 2010 at 2:11 P.M. North Plainfield ran a radar detail in the wooded pocket on the eastbound side of Brook Ave (P71 Crown Vic pointing east waiting for motorists comming in westbound direction). The coordinates of the exact location of were they were at that particular time were 40.624594, -74.624594 which was on the cement aprin of a three car garage however North Plainfield police are also known to sit at 2 more even better hidden spots when they run this trap that are right after afformentioned garage under a lot of tree’s … The coordinates of the exact locations of these two spots are 40.624692, -74.423205 in the small open grass space on the left hand side of the garage and 40.624867, -74.423085 under real heavy tree’s respectively if you’re travelling eastbound obviously with the toughest hiding spot being under the tree’s. It really doesn’t even make any sense to be going over the 25 MPH limit much if at all in this “bell curve” between Sanford Ave. and Westervelt Ave. anyway being that it’s tight residential usually with numerous parked cars but it’s easy to get snagged if you’re comming from the “fast wide open” part of Brook Ave. if you’ve just come from the stop sign at the intersection of Brook Ave. and Norwood Ave. Remember now-ALL of Brook Ave. as well as the majority of other roadways in North Plainfield are only 25 MPH most of U.S. HWY 22 is like 45 MPH with maybe a little bit 50 MPH and a few remaining divided roads at 35 MPH not to mention many stupid (uncontrolled intersections as the cops call it) T-bone intersections with no stop signs giving plenty of opportunities to bang everyone with all kinds of unfair “4-98” speeding tickets as well as other moving violations …

At about 9:25 PM on Apr 21, 2010 North Plainfield had a radar detail going for a little over 45 minutes at the intersection of Clinton ave and Parkview ave. They stopped at least one vehicle and they don’t care who they issue moving violations to, including the motorists lives in North Plainfield 🙁 When they run this particular speedtrap the patrol car is usually (but not always) sitting on the east bound side of Parkview Ave. right at the edge of the southwest corner, on the correct side of the road-that’s typically where I’ve seen them. If I were them and I wanted to fool someone I would sit directly across from that position on the edge of the southeast corner with the patrol car facing west bound, on the wrong side of the road. This area is a weird pair of close intersections which include Townsend pl and Fisk pl; and have only stop signs and no traffic lights. The only nearby traffic light is at Greenbrook rd. and Clinton ave. as described by the Dec 17, 2007 post. It is also important to remember that if you’te going northbound on Clinton Ave. from Plainfield to North Plainfield you are passing over a slightly elevated bridge and they are obscured by a lot of trees which include Greenbrook park-this could be especially hard to spot at night. Coordinates of the exact location where they usually sit are 40.606064, -74.450918 and where I would anticipate them directly across is 40.606196, -74.450768
