Green Street near State Route 46 East

Teterboro, New JerseyNov 13, 20070 Comments

The patrol car hides behind the large concrete knee wall and pillars supporting the Rt. 46 roadway above. The driver exits off 46 east where he averages 55 mph. Then in a short distance, he circles down under 46, unable to see the patrol car on the other side of the highway support described above. When he comes out from under the highway, immediately to his right is a 25mph speed limit sign. Because the sign comes up so fast as the driver is coming out of his turn and out from the shadow of the highway above, he will miss this sign if he doesn’t alread know it is there. Furthermore, there isn’t another sign posting that speed limit on Green St. east for about a mile from the aforementioned, at a point well after the patrol car has made the stop. The police aim for 39-in-a-25 violation, and when they hand over the ticket, they tell the driver to talk to the prosecuter to work out an agreement to avoid points. (The drive actually winds up bargaining with the policeman. There’s no prosecuter to be seen.) The cost: $430.00 to avoid points, and people lining up at the Teterboro Municipal Court to pay it, many of whom look like thay don’t make that much money in a month. Needless to say, the judge can’t look any of the defendents in the eye. The trap runs right from Green St. directly to the court room.
