US hwy 64 W leaving Chama

Chama, New MexicoAug 14, 20130 Comments

I’m not sure of your definition of a speed trap but I consider this as wrong. As I was leaving Chama, NM on US 64 I noticed the sheriff’s deputy had someone pulled over westbound just out of town. My reaction was to look down at my speedometer to verify I was not exceeding the 50 mph posted speed limit. I was not. I was travelling 50 mph. At the same time the deputy turned around and headed back my direction. As he reached me he turned on his lights. I knew I was not speeding so I assumed I had a headlight out or something. The deputy claimed he clocked me at 62 mph. I was told by someone else that the deputy knew I would not make the 11 hour drive back to Chama to contest the $78 ticket and they were right. It is just the principle.

Leaving Chama to Colorado

Limits are 65 going in. Going out the road and area seems the same but it’s not and that is where he sits.
