Cimarron, New Mexico Speed Traps
Center of town
The speed limit sign as you get to this tiny town is covered with piece of cardboard taped over the numbers, therefore there is NO posted speed limit, however, I was ticketed for exceeding a speed limit that is intentionally obscured.
I spent one night in this tiny town. During my very short stay, there were always two officers sitting in a parking lot on the side of Highway 64, talking to each other. I saw four cars stopped, not including my own.

School zone has flashing lights dropping speed from 35mph to 15mph. I was stopped around 4:15pm when the lights turn off. They were not flashing when I went through, but I was stopped anyway. Officer could not see that the lights were off, and did not accept my explanation. I was traveling at 35mph, could see the officer, and could see that the the school zone lights were off. Didn’t matter. Ticketed anyway. Important to drive very slow on this stretch of road.
State Route 58 near State Route 64
Speed drops from 70 to 25 in this little town.

State Highway 64 near Euclid Street
Speed limits changes fast, 55 to 45 to 35 to 25 watch out. Marked patrol unit had somebody pulled over on this stretch of road each time I went through town (six times in three days). I was stopped for going 7 mph over! Officer was young and arrogant!
US 64
Slow down when you pass through Cimarron on US 64 or you’ll see flashing red lights behind you coming from one of the two Cimarron Police Departments Ford Expeditions. They sit on either side of the highway waiting for you as you speed through town. There are also times (mostly evenings) where you can also see two of three State Police or Colfax County Units waiting for you as they sit and talk with the Cimarron PD units. SLOW DOWN!
