Los Alamos, New Mexico Speed Traps
US Highway 285 near Philips 66 Gas Station Between Los Alamos and Espanola Turn Off
BIA will sit at bottom of the hill coming out of Los Alamos and wait for people to come off the hill (in the safety corridor so the fines are doubled) and catch you speeding. The speed limit is 40 coming off the hill and for a little ways before it changes to 55 and as soon as you pass into Indian Land they will nail you for going over 40. One cop will radar and there were about 10 more that were just pulling people over. Friday afternoon rush hour is popular when people are going back to Espanola or Santa Fe and just trying to get home. Just slow down before the last curve of the hill. Indian land doesn’t start till almost the bottom and the BIA can’t ticket you if you are going over 40 before then because it is out of their juristiction
NM 502, eastbound down hill
Occasionally, SF County Sheriff’s will do a "sting". One officer lasers the traffic and then radios the "offender"’s info to another officer who pulls over. The laser is typically situated down the first steep left turn. Hard to see until you’re there. If you see traffic braking, beware.
