Tijeras, New Mexico Speed Traps
Intersection of I-40 and State Highway 14
Southbound SR 14 just before the on-ramp to westbound I-40, the speed limit drops to 40 mph going downhill toward the intersection, police hide on the dirt road just before the on-ramp. Also, exiting from I-40 eastbound onto SR 14 northbound, the speed limit drops to 30 mps, police cars are hidden behind bushes in the pullover just before the stop light at the underpass under I-40.
State Highway 337 (South of Ranger Station)
Enforcement officials generally locate themselves on the East shoulder of State Highway 337 approx .6 miles south of the Cibola Ranger Station on a straight away near Forest Road 462A where the speed is limited to 40 MPH. They are more likely to shoot radar at northbound vehicles as they will be headed downhill in this area. During hours of darkness look for parking lights in this area as the enforcement officials generally leave theirs on.
State Hwy 333 & Tijeras Ave
West of Tijeras, NM on State Hwy 333 ((formerly US 66) west and east of Tijeras Ave. Stretch of country road with no cross-traffic or commercial egress. Speeds drop from 55 to 45 to 35 without reason related to traffic engineering. Signs present but obscure due to hills and a broad curve. Enforcement usually only after dark by unlighted parked patrol cars which themselves create a hazard on narrow shoulders.
