Bronx, New York Speed Traps
$50 fine if you go more than 10mph over posted speed limit of 30mph.
Speed trap camera takes photo of your car. Located on the pole on corner of MacDonough Pl & Dwight Pl which is the service road of the New England Thruway heading toward Pelham Bay Park.
Northbound along the west side of the Bronx Zoo. I pass by this trap constantly but because of the heavy traffic at the times of the day I do I haven’t gotten ‘caught’ (yet). Speed limit in NYC is 25mph (although some signs still state 30mph). There is a Southbound trap a few hundred feet further north in front of the school P.S. 205.
Southbound on Southern Blvd with the Bronx zoo on the left and the school on the right. There is a Northbound trap at E187th St. and Southern Blvd.
Marked & unmarked Hwy Patrol park either under Caste Hil overpass (very dark) or in striped area about 1/8th of a mile up. Catch you with either rear facing radar (overpass) or officer sits with door open & points radar gun at you. Usually Crown Victoria of Charger.
Unmarked cars now include 2-Door Grey Honda’s sports coupe and Blue or Black Jeep Cherokees (all have tinted windows). Primarily on Weekends, approximately between the time of 1:45 am onward through the early morning hours.
Beware of the grassy patches just before the underpass before you go over the bridge, or the grassy patches before exits 4S (Toward 95) and 4N (behind Co-Op City).
Also regular patrol cars are sometimes stationed at the Mobil Station when trveling South bound toward Whitestone Bridge.
