Rt 9W NB b/t Rt 218 Entrance and Rt 293 Terminus

I had to get on Mapquest to figure out that the precise location is on the portion of the roadway through which both Rt 9W and Rt 218 run concurrently.

Right after passing the Rt 218 on-ramp, the one that leads from USMA (West Point), I received audio warning of K guns. The signal ramped up consistently, so it was not leakage from a bird-dog. There is no shopping mall in a 10-mile radius, so it was not the door alarms. No visual was available because it was after sunset, around 5:30pm in December (12/14/09).

As I drove further, sure enough a Cornwall town cop was sitting in the dark on the right side of the roadway, backed into a clearing in the bush, his cruiser’s front pointing at Rt. 9W North bound traffic, blasting away his K gun. He had no vehicle lights on whatsoever, and was only barely visible by the refractive ambient light of traffic on the roadway.

I have to give it to him that it was a pretty decent ambush site.

Route 94 EB between Riley Road and I-87 Overpass

Cornwall, New YorkDec 09, 20090 Comments

Town of Cornwall cop sits in her green-side-decal clad cruiser with all lights off, on Route 94 East bound shoulder, parallel to the roadway, camouflaged by darkness (around 5:45pm on 12/07/2009). She apparently was clocking East bound traffic with her K radar gun. The posted speed limit drops from 40 to 30 around this area. Because of night-time darkness, I was not able to get a visual until I was within 30 feet. Cornwall Town Police’s green decal is on the side of their cruisers, with nothing on the back, so the back did not glow in the dark but instead just looked like any other ordinary car parked close to the shoulder. Sneaky.
