Garden City, New York Speed Traps
Garden St & Washington Ave
watch out! not all the time but undercover gcpd tend to frequent the side streets parked with the radar guns. common ones are garden street and brook street right over the train tracks. speed limit is 30 don’t go over 40.
Clinton Avenue near Roosevelt Field Mall
The tree lined road next to Roosevelt Field mall has several speed traps, hidden among the trees. There are also undercover officers driving the road. This road is used by Hofstra students and truckers mostly, so the police give more tickets there. The speed drops suddenly for a school zone and bushes often block the signs. The police will usually have a flurry of activity, where they will have two or three traps set and will pull over a car as they pull away from a car they just stopped, followed by no activity for a while. They usually just pull over students and truckers, so if you don’t fall into one of those categories you can go much faster, making the road unsafe.
Stewart Avenue near Merrilon Avenue
Speed Trap if you’re under 30 years old !
The cops in Garden City are ruthless. They target late teen and early 20’s drivers, as well as those in ‘hooked up’ import cars. As was stated many times in these Nassau County boards, I know that the cops take their jobs seriously. HOWEVER, going 32 in a 30 or 36 in a 35 is NOT reason to get pulled over, especially when there people in their mid-40’s and 50’s people driving over 45 mph.
If you’re visibly over 40 yrs old, you should have no problem.
Rockaway Avenue near High School
The School zone is 20 mph. It is a 4 lane wide roadway easily capable of doing 55 without even noticing it. The out of nowhere the flashing lights are behind you. Garden City cops are tough, no excuses, just tickets.
St James South Street near washington Avenue
They sit at the corner watching people spped thru or never stop at the stop sign. Unmarked car looks like one of the neighbors. Have seen numerous people pulled over thru the years.
