Gates, New York Speed Traps

Sheriff or Trooper will sit in the median between the east and west bound lane (E bound) just after the Elmgrove Rd exit. If West bound it is just before the 55 to 65 mph change (catching the over zealous speeders hitting 65 prior to the change). If East bound they catch the people who are slow to decrease from 65 to 55.

Gates officers will park on Shadow Lane and use the laser gun on north bound Elmgrove Road traffic. They sit on Elmford Road, across the street from Shadow Lane, and monitor south bound traffic. Speed limit is 35. Another favorite spot is on Elmgrove Road near the Lyell Road intersection There is a vacant lot on the west side of Elmgrove Road near the Hess station.

The Gates Cops are always sitting somewhere after the 390 Bridge heading towards MT Read Blvd. Usually at the Gates Motel or the other businesses right there.

County Sheriff will hide near Union street just over the hill with radar and several chase vehicles waiting down the road, usually between 8 and 9 am.

I have also seen where they are down the road on an overpass with the radar and the chase vehicles under the underpass waiting.

Southbound on 390 North. Sits just south of the Airport exit (18) Brooks Ave. off on the right hand side. As you crest Chili Ave. heading south they scan you. State Police trap
