Eastbound State Hwy 27 Sunrise Hwy before Exit 65S

Hampton Bays, New YorkApr 17, 20100 Comments

Just past the exit sign for Exit 65S is a series of 3 yellow markers running uphill. Behind these markers is a copse of fir trees and a ramp that runs downhill. State police sit up the ramp just inside these trees. The Eastbound road runs down hill causing you to speed up, unwary of the trap that lies ahead.

One to three NY State Troopers rotate both sides of the road in marked cars. Near the end of the month an unmarked car will operate. At Exit 63 East the car sits in the bushes at the top of the ramp. On the down hill side east bound the car sits in the trees on the side about 1/2 mile past the speed limit sign.

As you’re coming down a hill towards Hampton Bays, first there’s an exit description sign & then about 500 ft further there’s a sign that says "State Police…etc", the car hides behind this smaller sign; oftentimes it’s a camaro or mustang(?). You would have to be stepping on the brake coming down the hill in order to observe the 55mph limit.
