New York City, New York Speed Traps
Belt, Eastbound Parkway near Erskine Street
Elevated position on hill between exit ramp and highway just before overpass.
East River S Drive near Southbound at 34th St Street
Police sit with radar on the center median (to the left) with radar facing southbound traffic from the back of their car. Because it comes up so quickly, its hard to spot.
Henry Hudson Parkway
The West Side Highway north of where it crosses under the George Washington Bridge drops to a 35 mph limit. Traffic runs at a 60 mph average. There are no plea bargains in NYC Traffic Violations, and the cops don’t give any lesser offenses. Cops also sit in the toll booth lanes above this and cite where the 50 mph drops before the tolls. Beware the Tryon Park on/off ramps.
First Avenue tunnel between 39 th street and 47 th street
In this tunnel the officer sets up on the right tube, hides 2/3’s of the way through the tunnel in the hidden safety zone and uses a rader gun. It is the 414 unit of the NYPD. It is also a un posted zone (30 mph city law) although it is the only place in nyc where there are no traffic lights or pedestrians!
FDR Drive-Northbound
As you go past the Brooklyn Bridge Exit going Northbound, the road goes from two lanes to one lane around a bend. There is a NYPD Highway Patrol car in the breakdown lane shooting laser at you. The Officer is sometimes in his car and other times is standing outside shooting his laser gun at you.
