Niskayuna, New York Speed Traps
River Road near between the bike path park and the one lane bridge
On River Road in Niskayuna there is an old train station which has been converted into a park by the bike path. A little bit down the road from there heading west is a one lane bridge which leads over to an island in the river. Between those two points, more on the bridge’s side, there is a large cutoff where a cop will sit facing west, but watching/tagging in both directions.
Other spots a cop will sit are in the Park’s driveway or down a small hill near the described location.
The road is a 35mph zone but you could easily go 50 without realizing it. They will.
Central Avenue near Adirondack Woodshed
Usually a blue unmarked Chevy Impala sits in the Adirondack Woodshed parking lot facing the East bound lane. He is usually there around 6:00am
State Highway 7 near Onondaga Road
This trap will affect travelers driving eastward and westward on NY route 7 when passing through Niskayuna. Near the corner of Onondaga Rd there is a small Mobil station. Just across Onondaga Rd on the same side as the gas station there is also a small office building. (I believe it’s a realtor’s office.) In this realtor’s lot Niskayuna police hide. I drive this way home every evening at around 10-11pm and will see a car sitting there at least once a week. Sometimes they sit in the gas station’s lot. it is easier to see them when they’re there, but if you’re speeding, by the time you see them they’ve already been eyeing you for about a minute. My radar detector can pick them up there from as far back as Pearse Rd, so if you have one and it starts going off there, this is where they are sitting.
