Interstate 81 near Exit Number 35

Oswego, New YorkOct 15, 20060 Comments

This speed trap is a U-turn just north of exit 35 on interstate 81 or 119.1/2 mile marker south bound. Day and night they will shoot from the U-turn. Mostly north bound. Day constant-on Ka. At night and sometimes evenings, they sit on the hill before the U-turn and shoot you from the back. The Radar is mostly instant-on Ka at night.

State Route 104 near Liberty Street

Oswego, New YorkOct 01, 20060 Comments

As you are traveling west on Route 104 towards the "Five Corners", expect one (maybe two) cops sitting in the parking lot of a business at the intersection of Liberty St. and Route 104 on the right hand side of the road. The speedtrap’s location varies often but is maintained in the 100-200 foot range of that intersection.

The trap is around a curve, on the right-hand side therefore there is minimal response time to slow down since the police usually will use Instant-On (POP) radar for taking your speed but I have seen Ka and K used before. The trap is manned the most between the AM rush and Noon but also in the afternoon hours.

State Route 104 near SUNY Oswego Campus

Oswego, New YorkJun 09, 20050 Comments

Anywhere on the SUNY Oswego Campus is a speedtrap… most of the campus roads are only 20 mph, even the "through" roads non-campus traffic commonly uses to get from one part of the village to another. Adding to this, a few years ago, NY State upgraded all SUNY "Public Safety" officers to full "University Police" status–Police being the operative word–so they can even ticket people off-campus just as if they were troopers.

Most often, off-campus patrols take place on the stretch of 104 between the "five corners" (McDonald’s) and the campus entrance at the top of the hill. If you’re traveling eastbound, the speed limit drops as you pass the campus entrance, even though the road widens to 4 lanes and you’re going down a pretty long hill. Not to mention a Dunkin Donuts at the bottom of the hill, even more reason to watch you speed in this area.
