Plattsburgh, New York Speed Traps
Two construction Zones involving BOTH SOUTHBOUND AND NORTHBOUND travel between EXIT 35 and EXIT 36—Speed reduced first to 55 approaching, then to 45 through TWO SOUTHBOUND actual bridge replacement areas—-southbound traffic is reduced to the LEFT LANE with crossovers….AND, NORTHBOUND is reduced to the RIGHT DRIVING LANE. Speed is reduced to 55 for the approx. 2 miles between the two actual construction zones, including the northbound PERU REST AREA. Speed limits are routinely enforced. Fines are doubled for infractions in this entire area.
Troopers and sheriffs sit at this intersection looking for speeders on Rand Hill Rd and Rt 3 during afternoons and early evenings.
College cops sit on several of the side streets off Broad and Rugar waiting for speeders on city streets. I’ve seen as many as 3 waiting.
Not really a speed trap but a trap to get you for anything. Police Officers AND State Troupers park at the intersection of Rt. 3 (Cornelia St,) and Smithfield Blvd. at a busy gas staion mart as well as in a liquer store strip mall lot, a grocery store plaza and general fast food/mall lots. Beware of this busy intersection area.
When driving on Rugar or Broad St. heading towards S. Catherine St/Downtown, the speed limit changes to 20 mph and they hang out in the college parking lots along right side of road, and they will pull over 2-3 cars at a time if they want to, even if going 25mph.
