McClellan Street by Sch’dy High & Zoller

Schenectady, New YorkJan 30, 20160 Comments

Both of these are “school zones” and are signed for 20 mph. They are NOT signed according to Federal standards: there are no warnings of place of entering & exiting school zone, no marks on road and speed limit should not be less than 25 mph even if it was properly signed. There is a Federal guide called the M.U.T.C.D. that details how a school zone should be marked. If it’s not marked correctly, you can ask for the ticket to be dismissed. NOT ONE school zone in Sch’dy is even close to being correctly or adequately signed. The City & police all know this…now you do.

Eastern Avenue & Columbia Street

Schenectady, New YorkJan 08, 20160 Comments

Street speed limit is 30 mph and it suddenly drops to 15 mph due to Elmer Avenue Elementary school, Cops hide themselves in the school parking area and are almost invisible.
15 mph speed limit board is at very short height and you cant see it easily.

Central Ave. (Rt. 5) both directions east of Balltown Rd.

Schenectady, New YorkApr 14, 20130 Comments

Niskayuna Town Police cruiser parked in Griffin Motorsports parking lot, facing east to clock traffic headed toward Schenectady, typically during the morning rush hour. This stretch of Central Ave is 40 MPH, and is ruler straight, but the speed trap is at the end of a slight downhill grade, making it easy for your vehicle to pick up a few MPH.

During evening rush hours, the patrol simply switches to the other side of Central Ave., and parks either in the Fuccillo Kia car dealership or the lot just past it to the east, clocking eastbound traffic coming either from Schenectady or recently off Balltown Rd. This location is even more clever, as you cannot see the cruiser until after cresting a rise in Central ave about 1/2 mile past the Balltown Rd. intersection.

Aqueduct and Maxon Rd

Schenectady, New YorkMar 21, 20110 Comments

At the point where Aqueduct Road becomes Maxon Road which is also the point where Town of Niskayuna becomes the City of Schenectady there is a speed limit change from 45 to 30 MPH. Schenectady cops sit on the Schenectady side and shoot cars coming down the hill from Niskayuna.

901 Kings Road at Pinewood School

Schenectady, New YorkApr 06, 20100 Comments

Police often park in a commercial establishment across from the school and get you in a 15mph zone during school hours. The School is set way back from the road and there are no flashing lights as some schools have on the sign, as you round the curve and hit the reduction in speed signand the road is a 30 mph so they often slap you with more than double the limit. Expensive!!!!
