Schenectady, New York Speed Traps

After making RH turn from Erie Blvd onto the Maxon Road Ext (heading eastbound), you will encounter a railroad crossing. A possibly new favorite pastime of Schenectady PD seems to be in frequenting this area. Police will park a short distance down the railroad tracks, shooting cars as they pass over them, and will usually be on your left (North) side as you move eastward on Maxon Road Ext. The road is somewhat winding, but easily permits safe travel in excess of posted speed limits, creating an ideal environment for speed traps. Use caution when traveling through this area and the Capital District in general, as the local courts are clearly on a revenue binge.

Just east of Exit 25 there is a long stretch of trees in the mall(median). The State Police like to sit at the west end, shooting west bound traffic, from a turn around that is just before the exit. There is not a great deal of laser in this area, to my knowledge, but it is there!

The NYSP also like to sit at the east end of this patch of trees, down in a low spot in the center of the median, again shooting in the easterly direction. From here they can get both east and west bound traffic. The wooded area ends at about the mid point of the service area/rest stop that is just east of Exit 25 on the eastbound side of the Thruway.

I have seen the enforecement most often in the AM rush hour, but I have also seen it on the weekends mid morning.

State PD back into the high grass and tag people heading west on I-890 just past Exit 4C (where traffic merges from GE and Erie Blvd onto I-890) SPD is off on the right. Also, beware of SPD sittin’ in the "No U-Turn" lane on the left just before Rice Road exit.
