Interstate 90

Syracuse, New YorkMar 14, 20070 Comments

On the west side of Syracuse right by the park for Onandoga Lake there is a turn around. It’s after the 690 exit. From either direction you are in danger. In the winter there are snow banks that make it even harder to see them. It is a really nasty trap, I have seen them pull over a lot of people.

Interstate 690 West near Midler Ave. on ramp

Syracuse, New YorkMay 03, 20061 Comments

This is not really a speed trap, however the NYSP like to sit on the Midler Ave. on-ramp going to 690 West bound. There are usually 10 cars sitting doing seatbelt, inspection, registration checks.

Interstate 690 West near Interstate 481 South

Where the ramp from 481 South and 690 West merge, there is a U-turn spot where an East Syracuse cop likes to sit with his lights off, and wait for speeders. You see, the speed limit on 481 is 65, and the speed limit on 690 is 55.

I usually see them at 0100hrs, and they usually have someone pulled over.

Airport Entrance Road near Interstate 81

Syracuse, New YorkJun 09, 20051 Comments

The entrance to the Syracuse International Airport is a four lane, divided highway. It’s a few miles long, it’s straight, and has barely any intersections until you get to the very end.

Despite the above, and being connected directly to Interstate 81 (65mph) this road is only 45. And the State Police have a barracks on airport property, and they are always sitting somewhere along the road. I’ve never been caught, but I see them nailing someone else almost every time I go there. Just like the poster who warned about JFK Airport in Queens, the cops are simply taking advantage of people who are running late to catch a flight or a pick someone up… even if you’re on time, it’s so easy to drive 55 or 60 without even realizing it.
