Yonkers, New York Speed Traps
Sprain Brook Parkway
While traveling north or south on the Sprain Brook Parkway, when going under the Jackson Avenue Bridge exit, a car is usually parked, hardly visible atop the bridge, with radar pointing down. The road is a straightaway at that point so it is easy to go above 55mph.
Sawmill River Parkway befor Exit 9
Before the overpass as you are approaching Exit 9 Executive Blvd. – YPD sets up in a service road turn off on the right hand-side. Its esp hard to see them at night they sit there with their headlights on.
Central Park Ave, off the Cross County west exit to NY Thruway
You’re driving on the Cross County West and get off at the exit to NY Thruway south via Central Ave. You take an off ramp that’s a nasty 25mph turn onto Central Park Ave, this THREE LANE road with a posted limit of 30mph. Looks just like the Thruway because the part you get off at is very undeveloped. You speed up to meet merging traffic (no one is going 30), and get tagged a hundred yards or so under the Cross County bridge (where you just were). The cop is really well hidden, I never see him when they’re doing it, so you speed on until about 1/4 mile later where at a stop light cops are there waiting for you, flagging you into an empty lot. So just be patient and go 30 down this half mile strech before you get on the Deegan, ignore the people honking at you and watch the passers get nailed. If you do get nailed, play dumb and pretend to think that it was the thruway, he’ll probably let you go (that’s what I did).
Bronx River Parkway Cross County East exit ramp
The police car or unmarked car sits up on the hill right after the entrance to the Cross County Pkwy East. The speed limit is unrealistic at 45mph. They also have DWI checks in the same spot on friday and Saturday nights.
Central Park Avenue Rt 100 and Arlington Rd Southbound
As you go underneath the overpass for Tuckahoe Rd (southbound), the speed limit is posted at 40mph. It’s a slight downhill approach. Very easy to go 50 mph, as most traffic is going at that speed or even faster. Yonkers police will gun you as you come out of the overpass approaching the 1st traffic light (about 100 yards away) ..which is Arlington Rd. They’re hard to see, and they have about 3 chase cars as well as motorcycle cops waiting to chase you down. The officer operating the radar will radio your plate number to the chase car. This usually happens on Friday or Saturday nights after 10:00pm. I’ve only seen them at night.
