Atlantic Beach, North Carolina Speed Traps
Atlantic Beach Boulevard
Going over the bridge toward Atlantic Beach, NC from the main land. The posted signs say 55 mph and suddenly changes without notice to 35 mph and the radar usually stops anyone with out of state plates 1st. It is a highway bridge and I was clocked doing 48 mph and a moped was next to me! What are the chances of that? Cataret Co. makes more revenue from this speed trap than anywhere I can think of.
Fort Macon Road near At. Beach Causeway
Police park out of view to catch anyone speeding 5 mph over the 35 limit. They also monitor parking lots of restaurants and bars to see which vehicles have been parked there too long. Black & gray Mustang appears to be the worst of the lot. If stopped, the officers assume you have been drinking.
Atlantic Beach Causeway and Fort Macon Road
The Atlantic Beach Police Dept. has several officers that are mainly targeting tourists. One officer is stationed near the bridge under high voltage power lines, which cause faulty radar readings. So you don’t even have to speed to get a ticket. They are hoping that by targeting out of town motorists, that the tickets will be to costly to dispute, and that you will just send a check to pay it off. Avoid this area from 11pm until 6am.
