Belmont, North Carolina Speed Traps
Perfection Road
Belmont and Gaston County cops sit in the parking lots around tthe Food Lion, churches, and apartment complex all around the block of perfection road where the speed drops from 45 to 35 mph when Mount Holly ends and Belmont begins. If you don’t drop your speed within 10 feet of that sign they’ll get ya! They did me!
Hwy. 7/Catawba St.
On Hwy. 7 starting at Wilkinson Blvd./US 29/74 along a half-mile stretch going toward town, Belmont Police cars hide in several places waiting for speeders. And they catch a lot of them. I see cars pulled over all the time. The speed limit is 35, I guess because it’s residential and little kids play in the yards, but most drivers seem to do 45 to 60. And who can blame them, most of them are going to work in Charlotte and they’re running a little late, or it’s Friday and they’re heading out to start their weekend. The cops must have better things to do.
Main Street
I often see Belmont cops hiding in the parking lot of the First Presbyterian church on Main Street after dark under the big shade tree next to the cemetary. What a sad act of cops to hide in parking lots of places of worship in our little town. There are plenty of better places that aren’t as sacred as a church to hide. Shame on you Belmont policemen for using a church to hide your cover.
US-74/29
The trap is across from Bi-Lo near WalGreens. I got my ticket from a cop hiding between the bushes near the woods at the bottom of a downslope in the road.
