Penny Road at the city lake bridge

High Point, North CarolinaSep 22, 20220 Comments

As you pass Piedmont Environmental Center it’s 45 mph and headed down a hill. There is a 35 mph sign on the right but it is obstructed by a cedar tree and you can’t see it until you’re on top of it. The police hide at Lakeview Heights Rd or at the construction sight where the old American Legion building was.

W. Green St. Between Uwharrie Rd and Surrett Dr

High Point, North CarolinaMay 17, 20130 Comments

Motorcycle cops will sit at the printing shop behind their sign. You can’t see them till you get on them. There usually are 2 during the morning. And they have people pulled over all the time.

Deep River Road

High Point, North CarolinaApr 10, 20110 Comments

This is the stretch between the intersection of Deep River Rd. and Gordon Rd. The city cops like to sit in the parking lot to the greenway (on the left), the entrance to an electric sub-station (also on the left) or the church parking lot on the right. If you are coming down Deep River Rd. from Eastchester (Hwy. 68), you are coming down a long steep hill. The speed limit is 35 mph on Deep River Rd., but you will pick up speed coming down the hill.

I-85 North and South

High Point, North CarolinaNov 14, 20100 Comments

I drive up and down I-85 regularly, varying from trips to Charlotte up to Greensboro. The worst area of I-85 is I-85 North and South, between south Greensboro near Grandover golf resort and where Highway 62 intersects I-85. Highway 62 intersects I-85 in Archdale, NC.

There will usually be a NC State Trooper, Archdale city police or Randolph county Sheriff patrol car parked in the median between North and South I-85. This is, in my opinion, the worst stretch of I-85 between North Charlotte area and South Greensboro. There has been a lot of construction work in this area in recent years, but still, there is so much police on this stretch, it makes me suspicious that someone somewhere is getting kickbacks or something for bringing in so many tickets. That is speculation on my part, but it has made me wonder.

I have not gotten pulled over myself, but it does make traveling on this stretch of I-85 unpleasant. You have to be extra vigilant on this stretch, to the point of where it makes you want to avoid driving on this particular stretch of I-85 entirely.

Old Plank Road

High Point, North CarolinaSep 14, 20100 Comments

The police like to hide off in the grassy areas just between Laurel Springs Apartments and Old Creek Crossing Road. This is in High Point, but in Davidson County. They are there during different times, but I have particularly seen them in the morning hours. I have been pulled and I know several others that have gotten tickets. The speed limit is 25, though there are no homes close by that spot and most people go 35-45mph because it is wide and quiet.
