Campus "police" spend all day, every day looking for speeders on High Point Road. My son has had his car broken into twice on campus and 1 stereo stolen while those idiots try and do the job of the Highway Patrol instead of patrolling campus. It is a big revenue maker for them and they are very unprofessional. They were totally uninterested in helping us file a report about his stolen property and were very rude as well.

On Highway 45

Jamestown, North CarolinaJan 22, 20130 Comments

I was coming back from the swamp area with a friend in my passenger seat on 45. Highway 45 appeared to be a country highway with no speed limit sign for miles. I adjusted my speed according to the traffic and felt comfortable with going 55, despite the fact that not once did I see a sign for 55. The signs for the highway for Highway 45 were in black and white and squares and were confusing enough because they looked like actual speed limit signs but were obviously not. Then as I approached Jamestown, there was a sign to reduce speed ahead to 40 miles per hour. When I saw the 40 miles per hour sign, I began to steadily drop my speed and that’s when I think I got clocked. I approached a traffic signal, and I got on a different highway with clearly marked 55 miles per hour speed limit and set it on cruise and it wasn’t till a few minutes later that I even saw the blinking lights. The police officer said I was going 40 in a 60 “back there”. What’s so frustrating is the fact that I had a 10 minute discussion with my friend about how vague the speed limit was. I clearly dropped my speed to the 40, but it wasn’t instant and it’s not fair that these police officers sit there. What are you supposed to do, slam your brakes? He told me I can call “Linda” at the courthouse and inquire about paying a fine. When I called she said it was a no-point ticket as long as I paid $237.00 with a money order. She said that it was a violation of a town ordinance and not against the state of S.C. I have one week now to send them $237 or drive 4.5 hours down to S.C. to argue my case. There is no online resource describing this ordinance and I’m starting to feel like this whole thing is a scam. I think I’ll be calling a lawyer.

Guilf Co. Sheriffs will sit all along HP/Gbro Rd.Mostly late @ night & especially on weekends and holidays. They normally sit in the parking lot of Food Lion, so if comming from Greensboro you may not see them @ first. They also sit in the parking lot of the True Value/Dollar Tree as you get closer to entering High Point. They have even been known to sit in the parking lot of the City Lake. All drivers be on high alert!
