Morganton, North Carolina Speed Traps

Be careful when you go on 18N towards Lenoir. Police officers like to sit on both sides of the bridge (Catawba River) and you will get a ticket!

Watch out when you are traveling west on I40 near exit 106. There is a sign on the side of the road as you come over the hill and they cant be seen until its too late!
If the lights go on, you are sure to get a pink slip….

The Hwy Patrol sets up on the right side of the road mostly for I -40 west traffic. There is a Hwy Patrol staion here and they consistantly lay in wait throughout the day and night. They hit you just as you crest the many rolling hills in the area. The speed limit is 65 and due to the volume of traffic they can be selective, and seem to go for indiviuals going at least 10 miles over. Please be careful

This road is a Highway Patrolman’s Dream. HWY 64 from Morganton to Rutherfordton varies from 35-55 MPH. Troopers in the 3 counties it encompasses are constantly writting tickets. I travel this road at least 3 times a week at various times and it is patroled heavily. Spots to watch out for are especially heavy in Burke County. There are a few dirt drives they run radar from and a a couple of country store parking lots. Big rigs are bad on this road as well. They speed like crazy! Hiding on the entrance and exit ramps. There are steel cables in the center median and guard rails on the right sides which limits the places for them to turn around or sit on the shoulder.
