South Mills, North Carolina Speed Traps

NC state troopers and local sheriff patrol this area constantly. They use the Visitor Center as the center of operation. The high rise bridge has a speed limit of 60 mph, coming down it heading north you tend to slip over the speed limit. Once you cross over the NC/VA state line the speed limit drops to 55 mph. The Chesapeake City Police are sitting there waiting for you both still and rolling patrols in unmarked cars. They will not give you ten over either. Beware.
US Highway 17 near US Highway 17 in Camden County
This highway is crawling with State Troopers and Sheriff’s Deputies. The Sheriff’s Department has an unmarked silver Crown Victoria and a black dodge Intrepid. The highway patrol and sheriff’s department have marked units with lightbars and no lightbars. I have seen as many as six highway patrolman and deputies working the road at one time.
