Williamston, North Carolina Speed Traps
Two Miles North of Williamston city limit/ Roanoke river Bri
As you leave Williamston on High way 17 North, 2 miles past the Roanoke River Bridge LOOK to your left and DO NOT exceed 55 MPH. The Highway is built for 70 MPH or better, banked curves and smooth, but Bertie County needs money and both the NCHP and the local sheriff are out there. They sit in an official turn out hidden by trees. I travel this road twice per week and have NEVER traveled this road when someone was not pulled. They also pull southbound traffic from this same location which would be Hwy 17 South two miles before the Williamston. All of 17 from Edenton south to Williamston is to be watched carefully. Also there is a low area 1/2 mile south of the Chowan River Bridge where NCHP sits often.
U.S. 64 between Williamston and Jamesville
This is the area that when on your way to the beach, it becomes a 55 mph zone after driving 70 mph on the new 64. This stretch is 4 lanes and should have a 65 mph speed limit. It just hasn’t been changed. These Barney Fife cops sit on side roads waiting for the unsuspecting beach bum or tourist to come by. Knowing that the poor soul has been driving at least 65 for hours, they know you will be a little heavy footed. Also if you are an out of towner or an out of state person, they know you will more than likely pay off the 60 in a 55 tickets they right.
