Surrey, North Dakota Speed Traps
Highway 2
Surrey ND police officers run radar every day along Highway 2 in Ward County. Radio traffic indicates as many as 15 traffic stops per hour on many occasions.
as you approach Surrey after leaving Minot
There is only a 2-mile stretch of 70mph, after Minot before approaching eastbound to Surrey, then speed changes to 60mph. This non-distinct stretch of highway is wide open space and is a four-lane, with wide ditches, and with very few crossroads or signs. The patrol hides over the crest of the railroad overpass (2nd street) and seemingly targets out-of-staters. (satellite image and street-view to see what it looks like). The question is: Why open to freeway speed for such a short distance if it was not to promote ticketing?
300′ west of center of town
Entering Surrey from the East, speed limit drop from 55 to 25 in 300′ with no warning.
Officer sits on Northside of Overpass between the curves.
Speed drops from 70 mph to 60 mph as you enter the curves from the east OR the west on Highway 2.
