Highway #4 from Thompson – Wentworth – Folly Mtn. – Glenholm

Wentworth, Nova ScotiaMar 11, 20110 Comments

Highway #4 is the old TCH 104 and goes from Thompson (east of Oxford) through Wentworth, over Folly Mountain and ends up at Glenholm where it rejoins the current TCH 104.

The entire HWY #4 is a speed trap but it is particularily dangerous through Wentworth as the speed limit drops to 70Km/h. RCMP Traffic Services prowl this stretch of highway regularily, there aren’t really any ‘hiding places’ because the road is generally so long and straight they get you on radar before you can react to seeing the police car.

Interestingly enough, 15 years ago when this was the TCH104, Wentworth was a much busier community and there was a great deal of traffic on this road (TCH after all) the speed limit was 90Km/h. Now there is a nice privately owned toll highway as this stretch of the TCH, I have ‘heard’ that part of the agreement with the province was the speed limit would be lowered through wentworth to push people onto the toll highway. Wentworth is now nearly a ghost town and there is little traffic on this road, so lower the speed limit to 70Km/h? I think everyone can see what is going on here…
