55 mph on limited access 4 lane, immediately changes to 25 mph without warning

Chesapeake, Lawrence County, Ohio

At the end of the U.S. 52 off ramp (single lane only) into the town of Chesapeake, Ohio. If one turns right on to County Road 1 (Old U.S. Route 52) the speed trap is sparsely marked 25 mph zone into a 45 mph zone going west towards South, Point, Ohio on County Road 1 or Old U.S. 52. From that point is about 100 yards to a 45 mph zone. The only way to get back onto U. S. 52 from that point is to turn left onto County Road 1 (Old U.S. 52) through the entire town of Chesapeake, Ohio.

6th St bridge Bypass near Intersection 3rd Ave.

Chesapeake, OhioJun 01, 20060 Comments

The speed on the 6th st bridge is 35mph from huntington to chesapeake across the ohio river, although, about 200yards from the intersection on the chesapeake side the speed decreases tremendously to 25mph. Which is ridiculous, because the officer on midnight will clock ya before you get to the corp limit, from his angle at CASHLAND directly across from brigde, there is no way for him to know when you for sure entered the corp limit. I think he just sees whatever speed pops up, and uses it. He’ll say that you are in the 25 zone but really u were still in the 35 zone, WATCH OUT!

If you get a citation be sure it is only one and that they don’t give you two and don’t tell you about the second.

US Highway 52 near US Highway 52 6th Street Bridge from Huntington

Chesapeake, OhioOct 06, 20040 Comments

When crossing the bridge from Huntington, WV into Chesapeake, OH, the speed limit drops 10 mph when you enter Chesapeake. The speed limit for most of the bridge is 35, but it drops to a completely unrealistic 25 on the Chesapeake side. The local police strictly enforce this limit, particularly at night when there is less traffic.
