Mansfield, Ohio Speed Traps

This area is posted 35mph but resembles a country road. Drivers frequently find themselves going faster due to the openness of the road and the police sit in a pull-off waiting for the unsuspecting driver.

State route 30 westbound just past the rt 39 exit. You come up over a little hill and they sit in the middle of the median with the laser gun, they use chase cars to issue the ticket.

This trap occurs every Sunday between 9 AM and 1 PM and often on Fridays and Saturdays during the same timeframe. Also on any heavy taveling holiday such as Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor day, etc.

The stretch patrolled by air is between milemarkers 174 and 165, especially around exit 169 (where the Highway patrol office is located). I can watch the white plane circle for hours from my home.

Two other hot spots (radar, laser) on I71 are near the Ashland exit 176 and the Mount Gilead exit 151–both of which also have Highway Patrol stations.

Just be careful on any Interstate in OH.

When taking 309 from W 4th St and continuing on to US 30, the speed limit of 309 is 50 mph. This section of 309 immediately enter US 30 where the limit is 55 mph. The police wait along this strip for motorists who might not see the 50 mph sign (there’s only one) and actually go 55 mph or over.

the police sit on the overpass with radar guns and have 3 or more cruisers on the highway. they shoot both ways, east and west.
