West Broad Street between Rome-Hilliard Rd. and Doctor’s hospital

New Rome, a little "blink and you’ll miss it" hole along West Broad Street, is by far the worst speed trap. Actually, I am not even sure that you could call it a speed trap because the 13 part-time police officers don’t try to hide from you…they will just pull you over for the fun of it. They have a budget of $400,000 a year, most of which comes from the traffic fines, and over the last 10 years, over $100,000 has come up missing. Just goes to show the quality of people they have in their little government. When traveling through New Rome, think back to Driver’s Ed class, and do exactly what you were taught. I have lived west of New Rome for almost 3 years, and luckily have never gotten a ticket. But it is only a matter of time until New Rome has it’s own episode of "COPS". You don’t get pulled over by just one car, you get every single one on duty like you were a running drugs or something. Go north to I-70, or put those hands at 10 and 2, go 5mph under the speed limit, and keep your fingers crossed. They may need your fine for their next vacation.

The entire 1/4 mile the "municipality" actually covers.

If you need a definition for a speed trap – here it is. There are a total of 60 residents in the village and there are 13 "police officers". The rule here is if you dont see the police with someone pulled over, look in your mirror – you are probably about to get pulled over. They are always there. Speed limit is 35. If you go 37 you better be looking out. Also, if you do get stopped, be prepared to be cited for anything there might be a law for – seat belt, tail lights, head lights, turn signals, lightly tinted windows, you will find out about traffic laws you didnt know existed and be fined for violating them in New Rome. They check out everything they can to extort a couple extra dollars. And then you’ll have to go to their court (which consists of a movable trailer) and pay fines and court fees. And dont think you have to be speeding to be stopped. They run plates at random while you sit at the stop light and pull you over if its 12:01 AM and your registration expired at midnight.

contrary to the ex-officer of New Rome this has been a speed trap for over 60 years, they do not need a reason to pull you over they make up one. I live nearby there are only 60 residents in this extremly small town, patrolled areas only consists of 5 streets.STAY AWAY if at all possible.

West Broad St. Columbus, Ohio

New Rome Has been a speed trap on the west side of Columbus for years. I have personally had (3) tickets there One for going left of center according to the so called Police Officer (1) for making a rolling stop while the police officer was hiding behind a dumpster with all his lights out. and just recently I was pulled over for get this being too close to the curb and for not wearing my seatbelt. they always look for secondary reasons to give you a ticket. (2) times I have fought there charges after being found guilty in there Mayors Court, having them transferred to a Franklin County court where in both cases the officer who stopped me never showed. The reason is simple they lose the money if Iam found guilty in so whats the point! my fines you ask well they were quite High as expected my no seat belt ticket was 10 dollars higher than average at 60.00 instead of 50 and the fine for not carrying my liscense on me was 83.00 dollars. they do anything and everything to get you stopped and look for petty reasons to give you a ticket! avoid this section of Columbus if at all possible they will be waiting for you, so Beware!!!!!

New Rome cops are waiting for the slightest movement. You are guaranteed to see one of them pulled off the side of the road waiting for anyone to go 1 mile over. I think the town of New rome is run off the income of pulling people over for petty reasons.
