Newark, Ohio Speed Traps
Rte. 16 East Expressway near O’Bannon Avenue
Between O’Bannon and Dayton Rd. on eastbound side. Favorite spot for Highway Patrol, Newark Police or Sheriff (whoever gets there first). They should be watching Dayton Rd. intersection for red light violations instead, as several fatalities have occurred there.
State Route 16 near Cherry Valley Road
On St Rt. 16 @ Cherry Valley rd, the state highway patrol sits in the median about 50 yards east of the intersection. They have upgraded their enforcment now with an airplane. The plane flies overhead and radio’s to the officers below. Inforcment seams overly high during peak traffic, although I have noticed them at multiple times thoughout the day. The best thing to do is set your cruise at no more than 60. With the speed limit being 55, that may even be going too fast for an overly excited officer.
