Quick red on traffic lights

Plymouth, OhioAug 17, 20130 Comments

Many cities now are using the quick 3 second yellow light to help to bring in more fines for the cities. Plymouth is a 3 second light town. So if you think you have time to clear the normal 4 to 5 second yellow, watch out in Plymouth. It’s a $100. fine. Mansfield also uses many 3 second lights.

The whole city!

I lived in Plymouth for 6 yearsback in the 1980’s. I know it all too well. Recently I was driving thru Plymouth, enroute to Mansfield. I was coming in to town on Baseline Road from Celeryville. That road in town is known as Broadway St.
A young, black officer issued me a ticket for speed. I asked him to look at my record. I have not had a speed viololation for a decade. I have a CDL and am careful. He did relent. So, I went to court and the Mayor never showed up in the courtroom! I saw him sitting in his office. I guess he (wrongly) assumed that all ppl would pay the waiver and let it go. So…. the clerk entered a plea of not guilty and sent it on to Shelby, OH court sytem. The law director for Plymouth asked me prior to court to plead my case down. I declined on the grounds I was NOT GUILTY and would not agree to a plea or as I saw it, a lie. So….. I get into the courtroom and the sitting judge had to remove himself from my case; conflict of interest as he is my attorney and friend. So… it got re-scheduled a THIRD time! So when I show up to Shelby (again) with a visiting judge there to here my case the Law Director again asked me to cut a deal. This time he said an “equipment violation” would get me no points on my license and a mere $100.00 fine plus court costs. I said “No way, my vehicle is new and there’s not a darn thing wrong with it!” They wanted me to agree to another lie as I saw it. I noted that 1. the officer was not there to testify against me (no witness, no case) and 2. According to the Ohio Revised Code my right to a speedy trial (30 days from date ticket was issued) has been exceeded. That alone would be grounds for dismissal. I told the Law Director that he his reply to me was “I HATE people like you!” I’ll bet he does. Ppl that can’t be bullied and stand for what is right. I did not make the law so don’t hate me because it can be applied rightfully to my case. I told him “you know, even if I were guilty, which I’m not, I have been inconvenienced by no faulty of my own having to come to court 3 times. The Mayor in Plymouth had the jurstiction to hear my case. HE chose not to. They wrongfully entered a plea without my consent…duh… court was never held and then I got messed around in Shelby by no fault of my own.” As I see it my time, lost wages, and inconvenience is more than punishement enough for a guilty person… which I’m not! If I had been guilty I would have gladly accepted his offer for “equipment violation.” BTW that’s one Plymouth gets you on a ticket for if they don’t catch you for speeding. They watch for lack of use of turn signals and broken lights or non-functioning lighting on your vehicle. Any way to make a buck….
