Poland, Ohio; Comming from boardman, ohio state route 224 south to state route 170 south the speed will drop from 40 to 25 in a 100 yard streach. The police are in wait at the end or beginning of mont, hundres are pulled over for a 1 to 5 mile overage. They do not have just cars the also have some very nice SUV’s. The village of Poland is small, but because of Two state routes intersecting, 224&170, they have a Big Money maker.

The speed limit is 25mph. They really don’t care if you are speeding or not. They have a quota and they do meet it!

I can’t belive I’m the first one to comment on this infamous Eastern Ohio speed trap! The police will sit along Route 224 on various side streets and in parking lots at just about any time of day and will reportedly pull over anyone doing even ONE mile over the speed limit! The road is 4 lanes from the center of town until the Boardman Corp. limit, however the speed limit is set at an unrealistic 25 mph through most of the town! Fortunately, I’ve never been pulled over here (I always try to go 2-5 miles BELOW the speed limit when going through here), but I have many friends from that area who have confirmed the rumors about the extremely strict speed enforcement to be true.
Be especially careful around McQuaid’s gas station (the one with the clock tower) in the center of town, and when entering Poland from Boardman heading east on 224, where the speed limit rapidly drops from 45-35-25 mph in the span of just a few hundred yards.

The 4 lane route through this village has a fluctuating speed limit, which the police use to catch unfamiliar victims. Driving East from the 680 exit in the Village of Boardman to Poland is a change from 45mph to 25mph. The police usually position themselves at the town gas station (sometimes a business driveway) and snag victims just coming over the border. Continuing East, the speed limit then shifts to 35mph, however immediately after there is a 15mph slow zone that is flashing all the time. There slow zone seems to be connected with the church and not a school zone. The trap through this zone is as follows: Through the zone there is 15mph limit while the lights are flashing, but there is a 35mph sign 1/8th mile before the end of the zone. Most unfamiliar drivers will think that the 35mph sign is a signal that the zone is finished, but drivers must wait to cross the end of zone lines.

Most victims traveling West on 224 from Pennsylvania are usually caught in the heart of the flashing slow zone violating the 15mph limit (many are caught at night, when they think the zone only applies to school hours). The best way to avoid a ticket through Poland is to set your cruise control to 15mph and ride the entire town out.

Small OH township, in which a major road (Speed Limit 45 mph) becomes (25 mph) for approx 1.5 miles. Close to PA border, and notorious for ticketing PA drivers.
