State Route 72 and 68 near Around SR 334

Springfield, OhioDec 06, 20040 Comments

First- State Route 68 from south of Youngs Jersey Dairy to the 68 and 72/ Urbana Rd merger. The cops are thick through there during the second half of the month. They also like to hide in the shoulders of the road where you pass under I-70. The speed limit dosn’t go up to 65 mph until you pass over the first bridge.

Second- State Route 72 from Villa Road to County Line Rd. Usually at night. Sherrifs hiding in the parking lots on the northbound side. I assume they’re trying to cut down the racing that goes on there. (oops! I let out their "Secret Agenda"!) Also, it’s 55 mph thru there. Cops regulary sit in the parking lots of the Springfield Athletic Club, Springfield Ford, Ceader Hill Furniture and Drive Thru. <— usually 2 there.

US Highway 40/SR4 near Zischler Street

These "Traffic"(as marked on their car)officers sit in a lot next to the Deluxe Inn on North Street(US40/SR4) and nab eastbound traffic usually with a Laser unit. They are known for other places as well.Places like the east end of the Main Street Overpass and also the west end of it on Murray street. They also operate 800Mhz M/A Com Provoice system.Scanner cannot pickup their radio traffic.Be ready with a full spread of ECM’s here as well. They also have a radar system of sorts from US68/SR41 to Bechtle Ave. and down Bechtle Ave. S. to North street. It is an X band system and the transmitters are mounted on poles over the road or on traffic light poles at intersections. So far there are NO cameras, etc. in use with them, but I think they may soon be down the line. For now, they just cause a major X-band False alarm. If anyone has gotten a ticket via this and not a cop, please post it here.I have not seen that it is of any use other than a Radar detector annoyance.Just Beware the cops here.

Tisen Road near Fern Road

This trap is selectively located where the speed limit drops from 35 mph from 45 mph for a mile or less before it returns to 45 mph. The enforcement level occurs during the morning rush period to target commuters who are passing through this small cluster of houses, which includes a horse farm and other properties with livestock, in a rural area that has been arbitrarily set at a speed limit that is more appropriate for urban / suburban residential areas. The speed "reported" appears to conveniently be just a bit over 15 mph greater than the posted limit, which enables collection of a larger fine. The township is so small that it lacks its own court system and must rely on Akron Municipal Court which is some 15 or so miles away. The local police use a church parking lot, which facilitates aiming at northbound commuters to the local "big city areas." There is essentially no enforcement by the same department along the much more heavily traveled 4-lane street off which this trap is located, even though violation of that 45 mph speed limit by cars going 55 – 60 mph (not over the 15+mph limit) is essentially constant. They are also careful to ask if you have any violations within the last 12 months — if not they can to offer you the option of waiving a court appearance and they can collect the fine with no court appearance (and essentially no additional work) on their part.
